What We Did
CTC led a team including the Economic Development Research Group and DRE Transportation to assess the socio-economic costs and benefits of implementing a high-speed rail service between Calgary and Edmonton. Canadian Pacific Railway’s existing route and a potential new “Greenfield” route were analyzed, as well as several different design speeds. Short and long-term changes to the economy and social/development patterns were evaluated using a HSR business attraction model and multi-criteria approach. This analysis included estimates of the likely user benefits, financial and economic development effects, societal and environmental effects, and the implications for Alberta’s transport network.
